Want a Makeover?

My friend Danielle over at The Design Girl is doing a blog makeover raffle benefiting our foster home! You can buy raffle tickets, and the proceeds go to the foster home… and you might get a cute blog out of the deal! My Extraordinary Ordinary

A few years ago we had an elf on the shelf. I sold it on Craigslist because... well... who needs more on the list, amiright? But then second grade happened and I was unprepared for the fervor that would overtake this one. So now we have a Texas Burger bendy santa toy-turned-elf named R.C.D. (Rudolph Cupid Dancer) and a penguin named Snowcharm. We got off to a rough start, but now we’re at 100% Christmas Spirit.

Tonight we talked about Rahab and how God used a red rope to save her... and how she was Jesus’ great-great-great-lotsa-more-greats-grandmother. The story clicked and Cora was astounded. “One end of the red rope was tied to God’s heart, mama, and one end was tied to her.” She ran off to find red ropes and pieces of string - plentiful enough on our tree - and said they’d help her remember Rahab, the brave woman who hid the spies and saved her family and was part of Jesus’ family line. This year @annvoskamp family devotional is making the story come alive for Cora. (It’s still a bit over Alea’s head... but it’s perfect for me and my big girl to do together. Check it out if you need something like it!)

Thankful my girls have a daddy who decided snow was worth a daddy-daughter road trip to Lubbock today. ❄️💙 Yesterday Alea wrote a thank you letter to “God and Jesus” to thank them for the pink snow we were going to get today. So we sort of felt like we had to do God a solid and preserve her faith with a snow-seeking road trip. (Couldn’t deliver on the pink part...) Cora practiced snow angels but has decided they look way more beautiful on TV... and way less cold. (But then again, on TV they always have legit winter clothes... and in this family we have leggings and tennis shoes.)

Festive fun with friends. Also: school night sugar rush.

From Alea’s teacher today... it’s becoming clear to us all that Alea is on a PR-campaign to improve her in-between Christmas list standing. She’s a regular spin doctor.
